More Bible Study 11/29/13 – Our Responsibility

I you are just reading what I have on facebook there is more, just click on the message and it will link you to my “More” blog.

I usually prepare and present the Bible study and then do this blog.  This time I did it the other way around, blog first, then the study.  This message just wouldn’t leave me alone. I pray that God’s word will speak to you as it did to me and you will realize the responsibility that God has for us in these last days.

Ezekiel 33:1-9  (NLT)   Once again a message came to me from the Lord:2 “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman.3 When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people.4 Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. 5 They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. 6 But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’7 “Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me.8 If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths.9 But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.

The Watchman is responsible for the message he is given by God.  His responsibility is to give the message.  He sounds the alarm or warning.  When he gives the message or sounds the alarm he has fulfilled his responsibility.   He is not responsible for what those hearing do with the message.  Now the responsibility shifts to those who hear the message (alarm, warning).  If they act on what they have heard they will be saved.  If they choose to ignore the message they will be lost.  The hearer has the responsibility to save themselves.

Jesus gave this message in a different way.

Mark 4:14-20  (NLT)  14 The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others.15 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away. 16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 17 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 18 The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, 19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

Joshua was given a different task but his success depended on hearing and keeping the Word always before him.  His priority and responsibility was to keep the Word and do what the Lord told him.

Joshua 1:3-9 (NIV) 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.  7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditation it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

If we know what to do but don’t do it.  It is sin.

James 4:17 (NKJV)  17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it,to him it is sin.

We have the power to do what the Lord tells us.  Jesus provided it for us.

John 14:12  (NIV) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

How do we do this? By Faith.

Hebrews 11:1  (NKJV) 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We all have different jobs and assignments just as those in the Bible had and we have to do them by faith, just as they did.

Hebrews 11:2-13 (NIV)  2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. 5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.  8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. 13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised;they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.

You are responsible to build your faith, through the word and complete your assignments.  Do the work God has give to you.  As usual the Lord speaking to me first and then I am sharing His message with you.

“Give Thanks”

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT)  Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!  His faithful love endures forever.

“Give Thanks”
Give thanks with a grateful heart

Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His SonGive thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His SonAnd now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

And now let the weak say, “I am strong”
Let the poor say, “I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us”

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son

We give thanks to You oh Lord
We give thanks

(From the song, “Give Thanks” by Don Moen
Today as we celebrate Thanksgiving I give thanks for our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus.  Above all things I think this is where our highest praise and thanksgiving should be.
I pray that today you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family around you and delicious food to share.   But even if you don’t have these things you can still have a wonderful day if you have Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  He has provided for us all eternal life, a hope for the future.  The greatest gift.  Having Jesus in your life is the first step to a wonderful, blessed life.

Romans 10:9-11 (NLT) If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

If you don’t have Jesus yet, pray now and ask Him to come into your life and heart, He is always willing and waiting for you.  He will be your Thanksgiving guest.

Revelation 3:20  (NKJV) Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

I’m not saying this is easy if you are alone, ill, poor or anything else that makes you feel that this is not a good holiday.  You will have to work to get out of that situation.  Start with prayer.  Pray for God to deliver you and while you are waiting for your situation to change, pray for others.

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)  Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Look around to see who you can bless.  If you are sick, pray for healing for others you know who are sick.  If you are alone and can’t get out, call someone else who is alone and can’t get out.  Don’t grumble and complain about your situation but be thankful that you can encourage someone else.  If you don’t have family with you, give thanks for peace and pray for those families in strife, who don’t have peace.  If you have to work today, thank God that you have a job and pray for someone who needs one.  If your family makes you crazy, Thank God that you have your crazy family, and pray for someone who doesn’t have family around them and may miss them at this time.  There is always something we can do if we ask the Lord and then LISTEN AND DO what He tells us.  I am talking to myself in this also.
My prayer for you:  This is from Philipians 1

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.  Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. When I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,  And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.  I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.

Appreciate what you have been blessed with, this is not a day to look at what we don’t have but what we have.  Don’t let the enemy steal your peace.  Turn around any negative thoughts and praise God for his blessings to you.
I pray that the Lord will bless you today.

Grace, Mercy and Peace

2 John 1:3 (NKJV)   Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

Today I am thankful for God’s grace, mercy and peace in my life.  I am going to list the meanings for these words to help show how much we all need grace, mercy and peace in our daily lives and how loving our God is to provide them to us.  Below I have listed definitions for grace, mercy and peace from Webster’s Dictionary 1828.

GRACE – Favor; good will; kindness; disposition to oblige another; as a grant made as an act of grace. Appropriately, the free unmerited love and favor of God, the spring and source of all the benefits men receive from himFavorable influence of God. The application of Christ’s righteousness to the sinner. A state of reconciliation to God. Favor; mercy; pardon.

We need God’s favor when we deal with people throughout our day.  I pray for favor with those I come in contact with each day: co-workers, customers, people who wait on me and with family.  We need favor just to get along peacefully.  Praise God we have His free unmerited love and favor.

MER’CY- That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant.

I don’t know about you but I need mercy in my life.  God always treats us  better than we deserve.  This reminds me that I need to treat others with mercy if I want to be treated that way.

PEACE – In a general sense, a state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals, or to the temper of the mind. Freedom from war with a foreign nation; public quiet. Freedom from internal commotion or civil war. Freedom from private quarrels, suits or disturbance. Freedom from agitation or disturbance by the passions, as from fear, terror, anger, anxiety or the like; quietness of mind; tranquility; calmness; quiet of conscience.

I want peace in my life.  If you notice in these definitions peace is freedom. When we are at peace we trade agitation or disturbance by the passions, as from fear, terror, anger, anxiety  and in exchange we have quietness of mind; tranquility; calmness.  Freedom from worry, we have trusted in our God to deliver us.  I think that’s a pretty good trade.

If you lack grace, mercy and peace in your life, pray and ask God for it. Then do what He tells you to do in the times when you have opportunity to choose something other than grace, mercy and peace  sometimes we have to make changes ourselves to have this in our lives but, the good news is that God helps us and teaches us how to do this.  When we follow His Word we always have the reward of grace, mercy and peace.  Praise God!

I am Thankful for the Blessing of Babies

Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)  The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

James 1:17 (NLT)  Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

As I am thinking about all the blessings that the Lord brings to us I thought about the blessing of babies.  I always write this verse in James on gift cards to new parents.  I have always felt that babies are a special blessing that God has given us.  Maybe this is one of the reasons that Jesus came to Earth as a baby, because they are so special to us.  If they are special to us just imagine how much love the Lord has for them.

I always felt so blessed to be a mother.  I could not have imagined the love that I felt for my children.  Now I am a grandmother so, I am six times blessed or if I add my children to it I am nine times blessed.  If I add my two sons-in-law and my daughter-in-law I am twelve times blessed.  WOW! Any way you look at it, I am blessed.

People who don’t have children or only have one wonder how parents can have enough love for lots of children but what they don’t understand is that the love you have for one child isn’t divided, it is multiplied.  This give us a small glimpse of how much we are loved by our Lord.  His love is multiplied times beyond measure.  He loved us enough to sacrifice His Son so that we could have Eternal Life.  We are His babies, always.  He never stops being our parent and loving us beyond what we ask or think.

John 3:16 (AMP)  For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

Thank you Lord for you precious gift(s).
