The Gift of Peace

John 14:27  (NKJV) Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

*John 14:27 (AMP)  Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]

*John 14:25-27  (MSG) 25-27 “I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.

Jesus gave us many gifts.  One of them was peace.  We may not always feel peace but it is still there for us. Sometimes we need to ignore what our feelings tell us.  Jesus did not base things on feelings, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.”  Like many of the other gifts Jesus gave us we will have to receive it by faith.  There are a lot of things in this world to stress and disturb us, steal our peace but we don’t have to stay that way.  He plainly told us; ” Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  We have to choose to be at peace.  To turn these things over to Him and in return take His peace.  Speak the words Jesus said aloud, take them for yourself, do it over and over if you need to.  Allow His peace to get bigger than your circumstance and feelings.

Receive the gift of peace today.

*  Sometimes I find that reading different versions of the Bible gives me greater understanding.
