Genesis 18:13-14 (NIV) 13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
What thing have you resisted praying for because it seemed too hard? We limit ourselves and our prayers because we think of the Lord as being like us. The Bible says we are made in his image but an image is only a reflection, just like when you look in the mirror you see yourself but it isn’t all of you, only an image. We are made in God’s image but we can’t even imagine how much more there is to the Lord that what we are.
If God could cause a man who was 100 years and a woman who was 90 years old to have a baby He can surely do that thing that you desire even if it seems impossible.
I’m not talking about frivolous desires, although I do believe that the Lord’s desire for us is to bless us in all things. I’m talking about that deep desire that maybe has been there for many years. As with Abraham and Sarah, their desire was for a son, they loved the Lord and served Him faithfully and His desire for them was to give them the desire of their hearts in a supernatural way that would be impossible without faith in the Lord.
Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
When you place your treasure in the things of the Lord it puts you in a position to allow the Lord to bless you. His desire is always the BEST for us.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 (NLT) 28 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. 2 You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God:
3 Your towns and your fields will be blessed.
4 Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed.
5 Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed.
6 Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed.
7 “The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven!
8 “The Lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.
9 “If you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in his ways, the Lord will establish you as his holy people as he swore he would do. 10 Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the Lord, and they will stand in awe of you.
11 “The Lord will give you prosperity in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, blessing you with many children, numerous livestock, and abundant crops.
12 The Lord will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.
13 If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom. 14 You must not turn away from any of the commands I am giving you today, nor follow after other gods and worship them.
God’s will is to bless His children in all they do if they love, serve and follow Him. (Notice it doesn’t say perfectly.) The one requirement is that they choose to do this. To choose life. If you have asked Jesus into your heart you have chosen life.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV) I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
Matthew 6:33 (NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
In Matthew Jesus re-affirmed this. If you notice He (Jesus) said, all these things would be given to you as well (or in addition to). God’s desire is still to bless us, His children. Jesus sacrifice provided so much more for us than we use our faith for.
I challenge you (and me) to pray and believe God’s promises to us for this year. Believe Him for that one thing that your heart desires. He hears and cares for you. His desire is to bless you.
